This interactive video installation uses body tracking to give visitors control over mechanical pincers shown on screen. When you first enter the gallery, your body is recognized by a Kinect sensor and it starts to track your hand motions. The video screen displays what appears to be a microscopic view of cellular life forms. The viewers hands are able to control the robotic arms in a disconnected sort of way, causing the pincers to probe the life form.

Uncategorized implicates our bodies into digital space by giving us control over the virtual objects. I wanted to create an atmosphere where any motion will have a direct effect on the ‘living’ form within the screen. The sensor is aware of the visitors entire skeleton, but I have chosen to use only the hands as control devices.

The system keeps track of several people, losing people and keeping track of people in surprising ways. It is really only interested in “new” people, and wants the viewer to interrogate the radiolarian on screen. The central radiolarian has a panic mode, and can be killed. But, it will regenerate over time.
