Luciferase is an installation of 20-25 bottles suspended from a false ceiling in the gallery, each bottle contains a video projection of current (if anyone is present) and past faces captured as people walk among the bottles. The images slowly fade in and out in a random rhythm.
The title – Luciferase – is a generic term for the class of enzyme found in light emitting organisms such as the Firefly. The concept for this piece centers around nostalgia of I have for past summers when living on the East Coast. To me, the rhythm of a field of fireflies is as soothing as a visit to the ocean or to the mountains. Built into those memories is recollections of people who have come and gone in my life.
The installation will run from March 1 – April 12 at Walker Fine Art in Denver, CO. Opening is Friday, March 1 6-9PM.
