Join me for a 75 minute workshop presentation on 3D interactive design at the Colorado Creative Festival. I will go over creating 3D assets for gaming and then bringing the assets into a video game engine.
I’ve been developing a new version of my wordpress theme for quite a while now and finally have it to a point that I like and have installed it on my site (you’re looking at it right now). There are a few artists using the theme already, and I worked with a design friend to come up with a nice, flexible overall layout. It has a stronger grid than my last design, and many more typography tools that are accessible within the WordPress admin area.
I’m giving away the theme for free and will be gradually updating the documentation to explain what it can do. For example, I personally don’t use pop-up galleries, but a lot of people use them so I have several versions of Colorbox built into the theme. Simply typing in the shortcode [gallery_colorbox] will create a default pop-up gallery. More info and downloads can be found here.
In April of 2011 I had a solo show, Uncategorized, open at Ironton Gallery in Denver. Ironton is well known in the Denver area for presenting experimental work and this installation was chosen by a jury of Ironton Studio artists as one of only 5 non-member artists invited to show in their space each year. Art critic Kyle MacMillan had this to say about the show in the the Denver Post:
“In his tech-driven, boundary-blurring art, Bryan Leister creates hermetic, contemplative worlds which draw inspiration from nature yet, ironically, are manufactured and artificial.
In “Uncategorized,” an exhibition at the Ironton Gallery, 3636 Chestnut Place, the highly accomplished illustrator- turned-artist explores a range of imaging technologies.
In the most attention-grabbing of the seven offerings, “intervention ,” he uses video- game technology to create an interactive work in which a pair of pincers, hovering above a kind of petri dish, shift according to the movements of viewers in front of it.”
For the exhibition, which consisted of an installation covering the entire gallery I showed a collection of work including in transit, the exolith series of prints and a new interactive work called intervention.
Very cool! Unity now adds Flash export to the platforms it will support. This is great news for Unity developers and should allow the production of gpu-driven Flash games. Just having the ability to code in C# and deploy to Flash is going to be super-cool!
A game-driven visual that I designed will be part of Jane Franklin’s dance performance this Wednesday at the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage. You can view the performance in person or through the Kennedy Center live feed at 6PM EST. My animations are stylized Black and White children’s book looking artwork originally created for the Mouse of Amherst.
Students from the University of Colorado Denver have created full dome animation for a live play being staged at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Galileo.the father of modern science explores selected events and incidents from the career and personal life of Galileo Galilei, the renowned astronomer-mathematician-physicist-philosopher famous for the invention of the telescope and the creation of modern scientific methodology.

Amazing demo scene that shows what you can do in realtime, with enough time! If you don’t know what a demoscene is, check out the wiki, it’s pretty cool that this is just done for fun. It’s not promoting or selling anything other then the skills of the artists.
Just got back from a visit to WET design, they are a water and fire-focused design company, famous for projects such as the Bellagio fountains in Vegas and other amazing water shows. Really cool studios and a wonderful, friendly staff that showed us through the entire facility. Very inspiring!
